Product Details

Gear Aid Seam Grip + SIL (formerly known as SilNet) is a premium, clear silicone rubber sealant designed exclusively for silicone-treated fabrics. Because silicone will only adhere to silicone, this specialized formula is essential for waterproofing and patching high-performance, ultralight gear.

Do Not Use On

  • Standard polyurethane (PU) coated fabrics: It will not stick and will peel off.

Key Specifications & Performance

  • Target Materials: Bonds permanently to silnylon, silpoly, silicone-treated tarps, and ultralight backpacks.
  • Total Coverage:
One 1.5 oz (42.5 g) tube seals approximately 24 feet (7.3 metres) of stitching, which covers critical seams on a standard 2-person tent.
  • Cure Time:
Dries completely to a flexible rubber seal in 3 to 6 hours via ambient humidity.
  • Elastic Flexibility:
Cures into an elastic, high-stretch rubber barrier that moves dynamically with thin outdoor fabrics without cracking.
  • Climate Resistance:
The cured compound withstands extreme environmental exposure, remaining stable from -28°C up to 82°C.

Step-by-Step Application Guide

  1. Set Up Taut:
Pitch your tent or stake out your tarp in a warm, dry, and well-ventilated area.
  2. Clean the Stitches:
Wipe down the inside of the seams with rubbing alcohol to clear away oils and dirt.
  3. Apply and Brush:
Squeeze a thin, steady line of sealant directly onto the thread lines on the inside of the fabric. Spread it smoothly into the needle holes and overlapping material using the included brush.
  4. Cure Completely:
Let the tent stand open and undisturbed for up to 6 hours until the glossy seal is no longer wet.
  5. Remove Tacky Spots:
Silicone may remain slightly sticky even after curing. Dust the dried lines with talcum powder or baby powder before packing away to prevent the tent from sticking to itself.
