Marin San Quentin 2, Fade Blue, 29, MD
The Marin San Quentin 2 in Fade Blue (often listed as Gloss Blue/Black/Teal) is the mid-range performance hardtail in the San Quentin lineup. Moving up from the "1" model, this bike transitions to a higher-grade frame and significantly more robust components designed for aggressive trail riding and "all-mountain" versatility.
Core Upgrades from San Quentin 1
- Series 3 Frame: Features a more advanced 6061 aluminum frame with a 12x148mm Boost Thru-Axle, offering much more stiffness and strength than the quick-release setup on the entry model.
- 4-Piston Brakes: Equipped with Tektro M535 hydraulic brakes (4-piston), providing significantly better stopping power and heat management for long descents.
- Air Suspension: Moves to the X-Fusion Slide Boost RC fork, which is air-sprung rather than coil, allowing you to tune the suspension precisely to your body weight.
- Dropper Post: Includes a TranzX dropper post (150mm travel on the MD) as standard equipment, which is essential for switching between climbing and descending.

Who is this bike for?
The San Quentin 2 is the "sweet spot" for riders who want a serious trail bike without the high price of a full-suspension rig. It is arguably the most capable hardtail for the price, perfectly at home on technical singletrack, at the jump park, or on local enduro laps. The 29" wheels on this model prioritize speed and "rollover" efficiency compared to the 27.5" version.
