Crankbrothers
The Crankbrothers Mallet 2 Raw / Silver Spring is a durable, gravity-oriented mountain bike pedal that combines a large dual-sided aluminum platform with Crankbrothers' signature 4-sided clip-in system. Unlike the commuter-focused Double Shot, the Mallet 2 is built for trail, enduro, and downhill mountain biking. The "Raw / Silver Spring" designation features an unpainted, machined silver aluminum finish paired with a natural stainless steel spring mechanism.

Key Features & Trail Performance
- Flat-Pedal Feel with Clip Control:
The wide aluminum platform cups the shoe, providing flat-pedal style stability and foot support. This feature is ideal for staying planted through rough terrain or riding unclipped momentarily. - 4-Sided Mud-Shedding Entry:
The open eggbeater clip design allows you to step into the pedal forward, backward, or downward. It handles heavy mud effortlessly by shedding debris through the open frame. - Customizable Engagement:
Includes premium brass cleats that allow you to set a 15° or 20° release angle, depending on which foot you install them on, alongside a 6° float. - Fully Rebuildable:
Designed to take heavy rock strikes, the outer chassis features a slotted endcap for easy bearing maintenance and overhaul.
Performance Considerations
Expert testers from BikeRadar note the following:
- The large platform delivers excellent shoe-to-pedal contact.
- The narrow 52mm Q-factor places your feet close to the bike frame. If you wear wide, flat-soled downhill shoes, your heels or toes may occasionally scuff against the crank arms when trying to unclip.
- The Mallet 2 lacks the adjustable height traction pins found on higher-end models like the Mallet 3 or Mallet E, relying instead on its ribbed aluminum body for non-cleat traction.
